Sandy Burney

Sandra BurneySandy R. Burney is the Managing Attorney of Burney Law, LLC. Ms. Burney earned her Juris Doctorate from North Carolina Central University School of Law, where she was a member of the Moot Court Board, served as the Senior Editor of Law Review and Mediator in the Alternative Dispute Resolution Clinic. Ms. Burney also received her Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia State University in Policy Studies.

An Atlanta native, true litigator and advocate at heart, Ms. Burney has amassed over 20 years of diverse legal experience in public, private and corporate legal environments with emphasis on client service and representation. Ms. Burney is well versed in local government operations where she served at the pleasure of the Fulton County Attorney and represented Fulton County Government, high-level executives, management and elected officials in employment-related litigation involving Title VII discrimination including retaliation, sexual harassment, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, Section 1983 and Georgia Whistleblower Statute at administrative hearings and state and federal trial and appellate courts. She achieved favorable verdicts and numerous successful outcomes on behalf of her clients. After many years in local government practice, Ms. Burney was employed at reputable and prestigious national law firms focusing on labor and employment law and later practiced at a local boutique firm specializing in family law.

Ms. Burney currently enjoys a multi-practice firm that encompasses all of her unique knowledge and experience, including: labor and employment law; all aspects of family law matters, including divorce, child custody and support, legitimation, modification, contempt actions and temporary protective orders; probate matters involving wills and guardianships; Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy; landlord-tenant litigation law; contract disputes; business start-up and operational advice; and general civil litigation matters.

Ms. Burney also serves as Associate SAAG representing Department of Human Services and Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities in juvenile dependency, child abuse registry, adult guardianships and involuntary commitment hearings in Juvenile, Superior and Probate Courts.

Ms. Burney is admitted to practice law in all Georgia State Courts, Georgia Court of Appeals, Georgia Supreme Court; United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, United States District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals; United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Georgia and United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Georgia. She is also a registered neutral with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution, a member of GABWA and of the Cobb County Bar Association.

In her spare time, Ms. Burney enjoys reading, traveling and watching football. In 2017, Ms. Burney joined The Health First Foundation as a board member and serves on the grants and public affairs committees.
